Day Six

Matthew 15: 17-19

“Do you not yet understand that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and is eliminated? But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.”

Good morning, precious one. Quite a scripture for today, isn’t it? No wonder we need to spend time with the Lord! Do you ever find yourself saying things you really don’t want to say or doing things you really don’t want to do? You know, words that aren’t exactly intended to bless the listener or actions that don’t glorify God? Unless we are always on guard against the temptations of the enemy, we stand in danger of getting drawn into things that will eventually hurt someone – whether others or ourselves – and that won’t bless the Lord or us at all! Our hearts and minds need to be emptied of this world’s clutter, and it is our responsibility to pour into them the good things of Jesus Christ. Take His words, for example. If I want to deflect the negative things of the enemy, then I must be filled with the Lord’s word, spending time in His presence, praising and worshiping Him. I must adopt the attitude of listening for His voice, aware that He may speak at any moment. I can’t afford to waste time watching all of the trashy stuff on television. We are supposed to take the gospel to the lost, but we are also supposed to be careful to guard our hearts and our thoughts. If we don’t, then we stand in danger of “defiling” ourselves with the evil thoughts and all of the other stuff Jesus was talking about in these verses. Take this time to fill up on the wholesome food of the Lord’s word, so that what comes out of your mouth today will bring sweet blessings for others and for you as well!

Dear Lord, please forgive me for all of the times I’ve dined at the table of the enemy instead of feasting on Your life-giving words. Fill my heart with the delicacies that satisfy the spirit and refresh the soul as I sit in Your presence daily. Then I know that Your words will pour from my lips, and Your thoughts will fill my mind with things eternal. You are holy, Lord. You deserve respect from every creature You have ever created. May my words and thoughts honor You, sweet Father God. In Jesus’ Name…
